A preview with multiple PDF pages will be displayed. Select the pages you want to convert to Excel. Make sure those pages contain actual tables.

PDF tips
PDF tables work best when the table is visible and upright.
Digital PDFs
Use Select area when the table is already visible in the browser. The Image to Excel Chrome extension keeps the workflow in the tab where you found it.
Scanned PDFs
Use clear scans with readable text and straight pages. If the scan is blurry, rescan or zoom before selecting the table area.
Bank statements and reports
Check dates, decimal separators, currency symbols, and totals before export. Statement tables can be extracted, but those cells are sensitive and worth a careful review.
Troubleshooting
Common problems when converting PDF to Excel
Wrong columns from a scanned page
The scan may be skewed. Rescan with the page flat and straight, then try again with the corrected file.
Multi-page tables
If a table continues across pages, extract the pages separately and check whether header rows repeat correctly on each page before combining the data in Excel.
PDF viewer zoom
If selecting from a browser PDF viewer, zoom in enough so small numbers are readable before capturing the table area. Low zoom can cause numbers to merge or be cut off.
PDF cannot be opened or uploaded
Some protected or password-locked PDFs cannot be processed directly. Print the page to a new PDF or screenshot the visible table as a workaround.

Digital PDF
Created by software — text is selectable in the PDF reader. Use Select area in Chrome for the fastest workflow. No file upload needed.
Scanned PDF
An image of a printed page — text is not selectable. OCR reads each cell. Clear scans with upright, flat pages and sharp text give the best result.
Not sure?
Try selecting text in the PDF reader. If you can highlight words, it is a digital PDF. If nothing highlights, it is a scan and OCR review is especially important.
Extension shortcut
The Image to Excel Chrome extension avoids most manual PDF preparation.
You usually do not need to convert a PDF into separate images first, or extract tables manually. Open the PDF in Chrome or upload it from the popup, then let Image to Excel handle extraction and review in one flow. If the PDF page contains extra text near the table, Image to Excel can place recognized non-table text separately so it does not get mixed into the main table export.

Can I convert scanned PDFs to Excel?

Should I convert the PDF to JPG first?
